The preparation section is the first and most critical stage in edible oil solvent extraction plants. The efficiency of the entire extraction process depends largely on how well the oil seeds are prepared. This stage involves cleaning, conditioning, cracking, flaking, Dehuller, Hull Separator and cooking the seeds to achieve optimum cell rupture, maximize oil yield, and ensure smooth downstream processing.
Seed cleaning is the first and one of the most vital steps in the oilseed preparation process. The purpose of seed cleaning is to remove all foreign materials and impurities from the raw seeds before they enter further processing stages. Clean seeds not only improve the efficiency of the solvent extraction process but also protect downstream equipment from damage and ensure the production of high-quality edible oil and meal
The de-stoner is designed to remove high-density foreign materials such as stones, glass, and metal pieces from oilseeds. Since stones and heavy impurities have similar size to the seeds, simple screening cannot separate them effectively. The de-stoner works on the principle of density difference, using a combination of vibration and air flow.
Crackers reduce oilseeds into smaller pieces to facilitate efficient oil cell rupture during flaking. Uniform cracking increases seed surface area and enables better heat transfer and conditioning.
Dehullers are used to separate seed kernels from their outer husks or hulls. Removing hulls enhances oil quality, reduces fiber content in meal, and increases efficiency in further processing. In addition, A hull separator is used to ensure effective separation of kernels from hulls, helping to prevent excess fiber in the final meal and ensuring maximum oil recovery.
Engineered for Maximum Oil Recovery & Efficient Extraction. The Sungates Cooker is designed to optimize seed structure before pressing or solvent extraction. It ensures uniform heating, moisture control, enzyme deactivation, and cell structure modification, resulting in higher oil yield and improved DOC quality.
The flaker converts cracked seeds into thin flakes, exposing maximum surface area for oil extraction. This step is crucial in preparing oilseeds for solvent penetration
The conditioner adjusts seed moisture and temperature before flaking or expanding. Proper conditioning improves flake pliability, reduces fines, and increases oil recovery
The expander subjects oilseeds or flakes to high temperature, pressure, and mechanical shear. This ruptures cellular structures, gelatinizes starches, and reduces anti-nutritional factors. Expanded material forms porous collets, improving percolation of solvent and reducing fines
After expansion, oilseed collets must be cooled to ambient temperature to prevent condensation, clumping, or microbial growth. The cooler ensures product stability before entering the extraction section
